- Application of advanced technology in the medical area is crucial to the improvement of human quality of life and robotic technology can make a major contribution to medicine. The workshop will discuss the most advanced medical robotics problems and technologies. It will deal with robotic surgery of the viscera, skeleton, and the brain. To construct a robotic surgery system, preoperative, interaoperative and postoperative process should be assisted. The following items should be considered: medical CAD/CAM systems including medical image processing, reconstruction of three dimensional models from radiographic studies, registration and navigation during the operation, mechanisms and mechanical elements including actuators for producing dexterous motion, light and small medical robots, safety, and issues related to disinfection and irrigation in the clinical environment. Furthermore, standardization of the user interface, software and hardware for medical robots will be discussed. Presentations in the proposed workshop will cover these wide areas.
- However, particular attention will be paid to topics concerned with new mechanisms and mechanical elements, actuators, safety concerns, disinfection, irrigation, dexterous motion, new control techniques for medical applications, system construction technology, and other assistive technologies. Several medical doctors are included as presenters to discuss the actual need for these technologies. The presenters will come from the Europe, U.S and Asia. It will take an entire day to accommodate the large number of presenters.
